In partnership with Solaglas (www.saint-gobain-glass.com) of Dartford Architectural Products were fortunate in being called upon at an early stage of the design process of this project and were able to actively get involved in the set out and design of the steelwork.

The architect wanted to achieve a ‘Kew Garden’ feel to this swimming pool enclosure without the expense of curved sections so the APC40 box bar welded to facets gave him the concept he was looking for.

With the elegant slim line appearance of the cranked bars, and by using a smaller transom section that allowed the panes to be wider than normally used on patent glazing installations, the system offered the building a feeling of space and lightness in contrast to the heavy steel trusses that gave the roof a feeling of safety.

Incorporating 24mm sealed double glazed units, all supplied by Solaglas, that were fully mastic sealed at each facet and covered by a stainless steel decorative strip, gave the glazing its natural drainage characteristic allowing water to flow down the glass unobstructed and thus providing a virtually maintenance free construction.

All weathering flashings and panels were welded and linished smooth prior to coating and then fully insulated to maintain U-values and reduce condensation within the swimming pool environment.
